Just walked past the Apple Store Chestnut Street, where the line stretched outside for nearly a block. At 1:30 pm on a Friday. My first thought: there are a lot of people who don’t work but still have $1,975 to spend on an iPhone 3G. If you’re not planning to review the iPhone 3G, do you really need it the day it is released? Based on a year ago, you should be able to go to an Apple store next week and buy an iPhone 3G with no waiting. That’s what one Apple blogger plans to do.
My second thought is that Steve Jobs is a marketing genius. People are so excited to purchase his products that they’ll wait in line for hours or days. And look at all the free publicity. Brilliant!
