iWon’t upgrade

Tomorrow, the iPhone 3G will be released. Have you heard of it?

As the satisfied owner of an original iPhone, I cannot justify the upgrade. I already blogged about the higher total cost of ownership. And in the words of Smurfy Pogue, “the really big deal is the iPhone 2.0 software and the App Store, neither of which requires buying a new iPhone”.

Unless the iPhone 3G supports tethering. Then I’m off to the store tomorrow.

I was fully planning on “upgrading” until I found out the software worked on the first gen. besides that the faster speed isn’t worth the price.

From what I’ve read, the limiting factor is the iPhone CPU. So the faster network only offers small gains in page loading.

Now it seems like there may be a tethering option (http://www.macrumors.com/2008/08/28/apple-and-atandt-discussing-official-tethering-option-for-iphone/). Have to rethink this question.
