Years ago, I cancelled my subscription to Business Week due to their infuriating bias that the CEO is the source of all good. Today, they write that despite corporate layoffs, there aren’t enough good CEOs. I don’t think this was an attempt to apologize for bad CEOs. (“We can’t find a good CEO, so we hired this one instead!”). Instead, I think it’s another message that the senior executives are the only ones who matter, while other employees are expendable.
Hmm. Maybe there’s a better CEO candidate among the talented managers who are frequently downsized.
