Economics of hybrid cars

A couple of months ago, I mentioned to a friend that I was considering trading our family car for a hybrid. He said that my driving habits do not justify owning a hybrid.

This made me realize that he’s using the wrong metric. I’d rather spend $5000 with Asian battery manufacturers than $2500 with mideast and south American oil despots.

But I’m not buying anything yet. I’m still waiting for a hybrid Volvo.
