Science vs. Enginerring: what’s wrong with the software industry

Anyone who develops software or uses it professionally will truly appreciate this article by Steve McConnell: Software Engineering, Not Computer Science. In it, he describes that the academic world should be viewing software development as an engineering craft, not a theoretical science. You wouldn’t hire a physicist to wire your home? Why do we hire scientists to develop business critical software applications? Bravo Steve. I have been saying this for a couple of years now. Is anyone listening?
