I admit it: I am hooked on reality TV. Or at least, I’m hooked on three programs: Survivor, The Amazing Race, and The Apprentice. I freely admit that Survivor is entertainment. After a while, I also admitted that The Amazing Race is not a real race but is also entertainment. But somehow, I have a hard time accepting that The Apprentice is about entertainment, not business acumen.
Clearly, most of the women in The Apprentice were cast for a combination of looks and ability to create controversy. This group of misfits were not chosen for their great business skills. Similarly, the men were chosen for their diversity in experience and education. The number of people with good people skills and common sense are few. You can practically determine the “sole survivor” of The Apprentice from the outset. But I’m still frustrated as I cry “these people are idiots” during each episode of The Apperntice.
