The right tool

There’s nothing more satisfying than having the right tool for the job. Completing a job is definitely satisfying. Having a tool that streamlines the job is even better.

This weekend, I added a new phone jack. This involved tapping an existing phone jack and adding 50 feet of phone cable to a remote jack. Every time I tried connecting the wire to the phone jack, the wire would break. After struggling for an hour, I walked down the street to the local Radio Shack. After describing my problem, the sales guy showed me a bin with various phone connectors. These were perfect — you simply crimp the spade to the end of the wire. No stripping, no problems. I got home and finished that part of the job in minutes.
