These are a few of my favorite things
Two recent inventions that have profoundly changed my life:
1. Google. What a clever idea — rank the relevance of a page by the number of sites that link to it. In other words, everyone who links to a site is voting on its relevance. Now it’s often imitated, but never duplicated. Going beyond the clever algorithm, Google also has a very clean screen without all the advertising annoyances. It’s not free of advertising, just free of garbage.
2. TiVo. Run, don’t walk, to your favorite store and buy TiVo today! You cannot imagine how liberating it is to be able to watch what you want, when you want. Whenever I feel like watching TV, TiVo has something good to watch. No more mindless channel surfing. No more forgetting to record your favorite shows. TiVo is infallible. The only drawback to TiVo is that it is relatively expensive: about $600 for the box + lifetime service. But it may be the best $600 you will ever spend. (Want a bargain? Used TiVo’s are frequently available on ebay).
